In Conversation: Karen Gunderson & Maggie Adler

Coinciding with her presentation at the Dallas Art Fair, New York based painter Karen Gunderson will join the Amon Carter Museum’s Maggie Adler for a thoughtful one-on-one conversation. Gunderson and Adler will discuss the trajectory of the artist’s career along with her conceptual and aesthetic innovations. Gunderson’s work will also be featured in Everything the Light Touches: Sixty Years of Karen Gunderson, a retrospective of the artist’s significant career and celebration of her 80th birthday at Erin Cluley Gallery on view until May 4, 2024.
Karen Gunderson is a New York based painter known for her monochromatic black paintings depicting the natural environment and historical figures. Her work has been exhibited internationally including the Bronx Museum, the Florence Biennale, and Art Basel, among notable private and public collections. In 2020, Gunderson was honored with the prestigious Anonymous Was a Woman prize, and she has been named by noted critic Donald Kuspit as one of the “New Old Masters.”
